Steel is the base of heavy equipment, household items, and tools. It plays an important role in the construction and manufacturing. Steel is not created equal. The type of steel that you choose can affect the durability and strength of your project.

While all steels start as carbon and iron, the quantity of impurities and the additions determine the way in which each one is classified. This is what makes each type distinct for specific applications.

Low-carbon steels that are available in many forms, are the most frequently employed steels by metal fabricators. They are found in beams, pipes, and other structural components. They are also ideal for welded fabrications, as they can be easily shaped and formed without losing their strength or quality.

Medium-carbon steels have less than 1.75% carbon content and are known for their hardness. They are the most suitable choice for cookware and durable tools. They’re also used to fabricate car parts and other mechanical equipment.

High-carbon steels have more than 1.7% carbon and are commonly used in machine parts that require extraordinary durability and resistance to corrosion. This includes anchor bolts, tools, and rods.

Alloy steels can be used in a variety of ways and can be customized to meet the requirements of any application. For instance, tungsten can increase the strength of temperature and wear resistance of high-strength steels. Chromium increases the heat resistance of stainless steels and also improves their ductility. Molybdenum, on contrary, increases the toughness and durability of alloy steels.
